Marcognac Terre de Porcelaine

Classified as a Historic Monument of Industrial Archaeology, Marcognac is a quarry site which was opened in 1786 and which operated for 200 years. Supplier of the Sevres factory. About forty or so kilometres south of Limoges, the quarries, restored buildings and tools allow visitors to walk in the footsteps of the men and women who contributed to the development of Limoges porcelain.
Today, the "Marcognac Terre de Porcelaine" association organises guided tours or tours led by craftsmen (blacksmiths, carpenters, etc.) which explain how the kaolin was extracted, what the workers' living conditions were like and the geological conditions which led to the production of kaolin in the county.
Group tours upon request, from March to November, starting from 5 people.
July & August the site is open on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (2 guided tours at 2.30 pm and 4 pm). No booking required.
